Holiday Park Entry
This is my entry into the 2003 Holiday Park design competition that was
announced on Atari's RollerCoaster Tycoon forums. Everyone downloads the
scenario and then makes what they can of it within ten years of "game time".
My entry was saved in June of year 7, with a park value of $339,340.
If you want to know more about the competition, check out
this thread on the Atari forums. The original scenario can be
downloaded here.
Theme areas
The park is divided into five themed areas:
- Midway -- the main entrance area. The midway provides access to all the theme areas and separates them from one another. It is shaped somewhat like a large cross.
- Classic Cathedral -- this area contains a large cathedral and several smaller cathedral-like buildings. It is located to the left of the main entrance as you enter the park.
- Water Works -- the area features water and water-themed rides. Cool, watery colors prevail (blue, green, purple). This area is to the right of the main entrance as you enter the park.
- North Pole -- This arctic area features a snow and ice setting where the Christmas elves have brewed up loads of fun. It is located at the rear left quadrant of the park.
- Pirate's Cove -- This area threatens to hijack the holidays, but have no fear. It's more fun than terror in this pirate themed section of the park. You can get yourself keelhauled in the right rear quadrant of the park.
The midway area also features a shopping area near the main gate as well as three food courts. On the right side of the park, you can visit "Fun Food" which sits between Water Works and Pirate's Cove. To the left, between Classic Cathedral and the North Pole, you can visit "Sam N' Ella's" food court. (Say it out loud and you should be able to get the joke! For the English language impaired, look up the word "Salmonella"...) Finally, in the back of the park, between Pirate's Cove and North Pole, you'll find the "Stained Class" food court.
Rides
This park has a wide selection of rides. They are listed here by theme area so you can see how they all fit in. The design of these rides takes into account the fact that this scenario uses "gentle" peeps. The little people will ride every ride in this park. The prices to ride have been set much lower than necessary. After all, this is a holiday park, so we want the guest to relax and not have to worry about excessively expensive rides, right? Of course, the park is still profitable despite this. It should be able to run unattended for quite a while due to careful path layout and generous staffing.
Midway
- Peppermint Stick -- get a bird's eye view of the park from the top of this towering piece of "candy". (Observation Tower)
- Starlight Mint -- this is one "sweet" little ride and breath freshener, all in one! (Carousel)
- Willy Wonka's Nerd Pit -- play in a vat full of Nerds candy. (Ball play pit)
Classic Cathedral
- Cathedral Cars -- the centerpiece of the Classic Cathedral area is perhaps the park's most innovative ride. A quad-racing coaster through and around the grounds of a giant gingerbread cathedral! (Soap Box Derby Cars)
- Courtyard Golf -- take a break and wander through our garden for a nice little game of golf. Don't worry: the giant critters won't bite you! (Mini Golf)
- Two Towers (Downfall and Upshot) -- A smaller cathedral, with two towers, offers the ultimate thrill. Take your pick of tower, either way you're goin' down! (Launched Freefall)
- Pomp and Circus-stance -- a small chapel containing a show full of exotic entertainment greets you as you enter the Classic Cathedral section of the park. (Circus)
- Snake's Slide -- across from the Courtyard Golf is another giant critter, and it's all about fun. Slide down the Snake for a quick thrill. (Spiral Slide)
Water Works
- Candy Cruise -- take a relaxing ride through a forest of candy. (Raft Ride)
- Chocolate Logs -- if you want more excitement than just rafts, try riding the chocolate logs through the cany forest. (Log Flume)
- Haywire -- ship's ahoy, but look out! This one's out of control! It will have you head over heels if you're not careful. (Inverting Ship)
- Sail Away -- for a more relaxing ride over the waters, try this ship. (Swinging Ship)
- Storm Chasers -- sit and relax a while in our theater. Watch and learn at the same time as our professional weather hounds track down the most exciting storms mother nature has to offer! (3D Cinema)
- Sweeth Tooth -- Rafts and logs not enough for you? Try the big boats. You still get to see the candy forest, but this time you will get wet. Very wet. (Splash Boats)
- Watership Down -- this coaster is guaranteed to really make a splash. (Water Coaster)
North Pole
- Down the Chimney -- take a trip down the chimney with Santa! (Roto-drop)
- Frosty's Whirled -- get whirled in Frosty's world! (Snowball/teacup)
- Gift Delivery Karts -- take presents to all your friends. (Go-karts)
- Six Swans A-Swimming -- Well, the song may say seven, be we only had six to put on the track. But take them for a ride across this partially frozen pond for a scenic trip. (Swans)
- Tundra Cycles -- Take a little ride across the frozen tundra and windw through the supports of the park's largets coasters. (Monorail cycles)
- White Christmas -- This is the centerpiece of the North Pole -- a great white wooden rollercoaster to thrill and delight you! (Wooden roller coaster)
Pirate's Cove
- Beach Comber -- ride monster trucks around the beach in search of treasure. (Monster Trucks)
- Clinking Dubloons -- smash these pieces of gold into each other for a satisying clinking sound. (Flying Saucer ride)
- Golden Wheel -- this ferris wheel has the midas touch (Ferris Wheel)
- Out N' Back -- The centerpiece of Pirate's Cove is a hypercoaster that has an "out and back" layout. And it's out in back of the park. So of course it's called Out N' Back. Beware the pirates as you enter and you may be able to sneak out with some of their treasure! (Hypercoaster ride)
- Pegleg's Haunted Mansion -- Old Pegleg's mansion is rumored to be haunted. Of course, you don't believe a word of it, and plan to explore it fully to debunk the myths... (Haunted House ride)
